They have 3 semesters : The first term starts from April and finishes in July. Summer vacation starts from late July to end of Aug (it depends on the schools, but they usually have summer vacation for 1 month and 1 week or so. private school have longer vacation than public schools). The second term starts from September and finishes in late Dec (sometime around Christmas season), then they have winter break for about 2 weeks. The third term starts in the beginning of January till late March. They will have spring break for about 2 weeks.

It depends each high, but mostly speakingk they have 3 semesters, not two. Either three or two semesters, School year starts April and ends March, usually. Some exception like Jan to Dec also exist there though. So you can not simplify it. In general, the posters advanced are correct anyway.

School here start in April and end in March of the following year. School year is usually divided into three terms. First Term: April - July Opening Ceremony (Shigyou shiki) April. This is a ceremony where students gather to mark the start of the new school year. End of Semester Ceremony (Shuugyou shiki) July This is a ceremony to declare the end of the first semester. Summer Holiday (Natsu Yasumi) End of July to End of August This is a long break of 30-40 days. Students may be able to join clubs and participate in special school activities. Second Term: September - December Shigyou shiki - (September.) this is a ceremony where students gather to mark the start of the second term. Shuugyou shiki (December) Winter Holiday (Fuyu yasumi) End of December to the beginning of January (relatively short holiday of about two weeks. Third Term: January to March Shigyou shiki (January) Graduation Ceremony (sotsugyou shiki) March - This is a cermony to congratulate students on their graduation from the final grade. End of the Year Ceremony (Shuuryou shiki) March.- this is a ceremony not only to declare the end of third semester, but also the end of the entire school year. Spring Holiday (Haru Yasumi) End of March - Beginning of April. Lot of activities for students during semesters but a lot of explanation is needed. And what do you mean by highschool? Junior highschool or Senior Highschool? After graduating elementary education, we enter junior highschool for 3 years, then, senior high school. And then universities (daigaku) or two-year colleges (tandai) or Vocational colleges (senmongakkou)
