Can you recommend English language schools in Japan?
I'm meaning to teach English, not learn it. I've aleady applied to GEOS kids, but as of yet have had no reply. I have the necessary qualifications, so that's not an issue. thank you in advance for any answers.

There are many programs that place you in various schools in Japan so you can teach English. I am currently working here in Japan through the JET Program. I have been here for the last 3 years.The program places you at a school and through the Board Of Education you are helped to find a place to live, getting your license and a car and all the other necessities of living in a foreign country. The Board of Education also pays for your flight to Japan and your flight back to the country you departed from I recommend this program because they do help those who are teaching with all of those things as opposed to coming here on your own and having to do all those things on your own. This can be a very big pain in the butt especially if you don't know the language or the culture. There is a lot of red tape that you will have to go through and it is just the Japanese way so it's something you have to get use to. There is a very large network set up for those in the JET Program to make sure their living in Japan is as comfortable as possible. The qualifications for this program is a college or university degree and a desire to learn Japanese culture as well as share your own. There are many other programs such as NOVA, Teach Away, and AEON but I can only speak for the JET Program. Do research and you will find many available means to come and teach in Japan If you have any questions feel free to as me!

JET is the best deal. GEOS and AEON are much the same (they started out as the same company). NOVA is no more (they collapsed after "financial irregularities". They were s**t anyway.) ECC is probably better than GEOS or AEON language schools, judging by people I know who've worked for all three. Berlitz can be good if you get a contract with them (rather than on a per lesson rate). You can make more money with them than with the others, and the students tend to be better (fewer hobbyists, more people who need it for work). This site gives a comparison. Be aware that it's based on official information from the companies. So if I were to go to school in japan and have a okay education in culinary what would I take? I'm writing a paper and I have no understanding of the education system in Japan, so I would greatly appreciate it. I'll give best answer to whomever answers my question

well im starting le cordon blue in july and transfering to the one in tokyo they say thell hlep you get placed at a job at the end and from people i know whove gone have all had excelent experiances ive taken a year and a half of japanewe but am going to continue taking more japanese classes before i leave you can get a dang i think its called like a specific job visa a chef based job is listed on their its for 1 to 3 years thats what im getting but the teacher i have right now (shes american) she went to japan on a whim didnt know the language at all and went and taught english their for 2 years and it went good for her

I'm not sure about schools IN Japan, but I know many non-USA airlines send their pilot trainees to the US for their training, especially in the Southwest. I know JAL does this, and the airport I trained at had a bunch of Korean Air Lines trainees based there. We have better weather, less congested airpspace and the cost of operations is much, much less. I've even heard, anecdotally, that some Europeans have found that even as individuals, rather than learn at home, it's cheaper to come to the US, rent an apartment near an airport and live there for several months while they learn to fly, and then go home with a shiny new pilot's certificate.

I know that licenses from outside japan are not allowed if you are flying an aircraft licensed in japan. You must convert your license, and the US license is probably the easiest, since we have the highest set of standards. It costs about $40,000 to get a comercial license in the US, which is about 4,700,000 yen. I hope that helped.

How much money should I raise to spend in Japan.?
I am going on a school vacation to Japan for two weeks next summer. I need to raise over $3,000 just to go. How much extra money should I try to raise so I can spend money there as well. The $3000 does include everything (food, transportation, etc.) I am just wondering about spending money to buy souvenirs.

Well, If the $3,000 covers Hotels, and air fare, and food If ur going.... 1-2 weeks...$100-200(without food) 3-4 weeks...$300-500(without food) Be sure to think about trains and such as well.

It depends on what your $3000 covers. Does it already cover food? Does it cover accommodation? Anyway, if you don't need accommodation, you need $100 for each day. So you need to have $1400 for 2 weeks.

Do I have to go back to high school?

Hi I plan to go to Japan to continue my education there. I currently am finishing university here in the Philippines and plan to go to Japan after I graduate. Problem is that I read that at least 12 years of primary and secondary education are required to attend university, I only have 10 since the Philippines doesn't have a junior high but has 4 years of high school. Question: does anyone know if I have to go back to high school in Japan to get into university?

Japanese colleges require nationwide testing and often want a high school diploma from a Japanese high school. And to get into a Japanese high school (without paying insane fees) usually reuires a test and a diploma from a Japanese middle school. If applying as an international student, you will probably get in, but the fee is going to be extremely high. And federal aid obviously won't be an option at that point. Your best bet is to do a study abroad in Japan; you will be paying the same price as if you were attending college at home. Go research some colleges and see if they have study abroad options in Japan.

why is Anne of Green Gables such a huge phenomenon in Japan?
I live on PEI and I want to understand.. why is it so big in Japan, such a huge phenomenon that the book is taught in high schools in Japan and hundreds to thousands of Japanese people come every summer on a sort of tourist pilgrimage? I am just curious, I want to know what is so special about it? I've never really been able to get into the Anne books. thanks :)

Well, you are probably asking about this, because you are having a hard time finding information. What do you have so far? The knowledge I have about Japanese School life comes from Anime. I can tell you what I know. For the timings.... It depends, just like in America. Some school start earlier than others. For example some schools may start at 7:30 while others may start from 8:00 any where to 9:00 am. Entrance into the various Japanese Schools depends by a student s' grades and by difficult entrance exams. The more prestigious the schools the harder the test are. The test consists of different subjects the student is supposed to have learned in their various years of schooling. There are private and public schools. Classes are assigned by the studentâ€™s grades as well. If you are the smartest of your class you are assigned to class 1-A, and so on and so forth. Classes range from 1-A, 1-B, 1-C, 1-D, to 1-F. The number also varies, if you are in 1-B for ex, your grades are okay and you are in 7th grade. If you are in 2-C your grades are satisfactory and your in 8th grade. 9th grade is 3; yes middle school starts in 6th and ends in 9th. A student is also ranked by their midterm and final grades. Ranking is important in Japan. Students usually take similar classes like the ones America students take. They take Japanese, Math, Science, History, they chose their electives. By the way English is Mandatory; all students are required to take this language. A typical school year for a student starts in winter and ends in spring. While here in America school starts in fall and ends in summer. Students also are required to use to different types of uniforms. Students use a different (warmer) uniform in the winter and a lighter uniform in the spring. Girlâ€™s uniforms usually include fine dresses; even in public schools girls use expensive uniforms. Uniforms vary greatly form school to school. Boys usually wear suits. In most schools Girls use dresses that resemble sailor outfits. School Activates resemble American after school activities. There are sports and student councils, newspaper clubs, art clubs; music clubs basically any club you can imagine. If you need any more info, I recommend watching school related anime. Though they are usually romantic comedy.

They have 3 semesters : The first term starts from April and finishes in July. Summer vacation starts from late July to end of Aug (it depends on the schools, but they usually have summer vacation for 1 month and 1 week or so. private school have longer vacation than public schools). The second term starts from September and finishes in late Dec (sometime around Christmas season), then they have winter break for about 2 weeks. The third term starts in the beginning of January till late March. They will have spring break for about 2 weeks.

School year starts in April in Japan. We have 3 semesters. Roughly, semester 1: April 7 to July 15 semester 2: September 1 to December 15 semester 3: January 7 to March 20

It depends each high, but mostly speakingk they have 3 semesters, not two. Either three or two semesters, School year starts April and ends March, usually. Some exception like Jan to Dec also exist there though. So you can not simplify it. In general, the posters advanced are correct anyway.

Well, I'm not sure about International school but my high school I'm attending which is in Tokyo, Kita-ku, has an international department and you can graduate there and get into high ranked universities. The problem is, I think if you are to graduate from a high school in Japan, you need to have at least 3 years of Japanese high school education in order to apply for a university (I have to do that even though my Japanese is fluent but I came from USA) I can give you the site if you are interested... I'm a junior high school student in Japan. It questioned like this because it had been interested in the foreign country. Oppositely, if I go to the United States to go sightseeing, I want to visit Los Angeles, Miami, and Hollywood. Please teach!

I really enjoyed the Hiroshima Peace Park. It's beautiful and very restful.

If you are interested in japanese culture, you should go to "Kyoto" and "Nara". because there are many famous temples,such as Horyu-ji temple and Yakushi-ji temple. If you want to have delicious japanese food, I strongly advise you to go to Osaka or Hokkaido.(Osaka is called "kuidaore no machi" meaning "a town where there are so many delicious food that you'll eat far too much.) In Osaka you can eat "tako-yaki", "okonomi-yaki"etc... In Hokkaido you will have delicious seafood. i think you'd better go to Osaka after you finished sightseeing in Kyoto and Nara,because Osaka is next to Kyoto and you can go to Osaka by train. hope this helps.

lol at tkm (I think this person is also a native japanese). For me: Osaka Nara Kyoto Hiroshima Mt. Fuji Nagoya Himeji Nikko Kamakura Yokohama and that pretty much does it. I have not heard the best things about Hokkaido, and have never heard from a seasoned traveler that it is especially splendid. Mostly, japanese people are the ones who tell me how great it is, japanese people who have not seen a lot of the world tell me this, not other travelers. Same with Okinawa, there are better beaches in the world than in Japan, so i would rather not.

I would look for festivals. Every town has festivals unique to that town and they are like their own Forth of July. I was in Kofu during their festival day and there were like 15,000 people dressed up in Samurai garb reinacting the most famous battle the town had. It is something like the Civil War folks in the US who recreate battles. Definitely check out some of the big castles. In Kyoto you should see Nijo jo and then there are great castles in Nagoya and Himeji. Himeji is considered to be the best castle in the country.

You say you like Los Angeles, Miami, and Hollywood? If that's the type of place you like, outside of Tokyo perhaps you'd like Osaka and Fukuoka. Generally Kyoto is the second best place to go, but it is home to many of Japan's historical and cultural sites. Are you interested in that sort of thing? The cities you've mentioned are big on shopping and excess. Miami has famous beaches...

I luv going to japan! I have tons of relatives there so i go a lot! here are some fun things to see Kyoto-for beautiful temples and the occasional geisha! Hemeiji- to see hemeiji castle Nara- if u go here then u should see the deer park hope this helps!

how can i be a foreign exchange student if my school doesn't have the program?
so i really wanna become a foreign exchange student and study abroad in japan my junior year (i'm a sophomore), but my school doesn't have the program. what can i do? i really really wanna go to japan! does that mean that if for some reason i do end up going to japan, my school wont give me any credit and when i come back i'll have to do my junior year all over again?? i'm not in college.

First, to be technical I think what you mean is you want to study abroad. A foreign exchange student is someone who attends one school while someone from the school you attend attends your school. Study abroad is where you attend a university in a different country. Now about your question. I would meet with a study abroad advisor at your school. They should direct you to study abroad providers that offer programs in Japan for your major. These might cost more because it won't be directly through your school but I do not know for sure (all schools and providers are different). You can also try to directly enroll in a Japanese university (again, the study abroad office can help you with this). As for the credit thing, plan your schedule while abroad with your academic advisor once you find out which Japanese school you are going to. That will ensure that they approve of your schedule (your abroad classes fulfill a requirement at your school) and more importantly that you will get credit for the classes you take while abroad.

Flight schools in Japan are prohibitively expensive, even by European or Australian standards. If you are American, it will cost 3-4 times what it costs here. Not worth it.

I'm a senior at my high school, and I want to be an English teacher in Japan! I've gone a school trip to Japan and by the time I graduate I'll have had four years of Japanese. I want to go to a school that will allow me to continue my Japanese, give me a chance to study abroad in Japan, and has good classes for high school Education!

I am from Asia. From what I know, there are a big demand in english teacher in asia. It doesn't really matter which school you go. But you may want to take ESL certification. It will definitely help to get a teacher job overseas.

If you want to teach English in Japan then in general you'll need a degree (although there are still possibilities if you do not have this) and a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate to get a visa and work. The degree can be in almost any subject as it is usually required for the visa only so you will find teachers with a degree in Engineering or Sociology. Having said this, to help get the job it's obviously better to be English or language related, for example a degree in English literature. The TEFL certificate can be taken either in-house or online at your own pace which is a much cheaper option (see http://icalweb.com).

It is very difficult to find a job in Japan without a college degree and also very high grade point. You should learn Japanese and finish your education to make it affordable to live there.
