you know in manga kids always see who got best on the tests and stuff, so, do kids grades actually get displayed at schools in japan?

No. Manga is fake and is added to help with the plot somehow. That would cause problems don't you think? Maybe they post things like who made it on a certain team or what not. Not grades. Of course for my school they post grades..but is kept secret by ID number. Not your actual name.

"Welcome! To answer your stupid question, it depends on each school. And don't mix up reality with manga, because manga is stupid" will be some of the answers that follow mine, I bet. I as an average citizen of Japan find little problem with displaying students' grades(with their names) as long as they've done a pretty good job. There are many schools that publicize who're the top graders after midterm n' stuff. And the top graders of 'moshi' are published. That of course doesn't apply to those who did mildly good or sucked shite however, so if there's anyone planning to go to school in Japan who's worried about your grade being seen by others and your friends finding you retarded, that's not necessary.

The only time I have seen grades posted was when my daughter applied to a private school. Then the scores were posted. Other than that, you really, and I mean REALLY, need to get a clue that manga and anime are NOT real. They are freaking cartoons. This means that not only does Superman not fly, he doesn't freaking exist. I knew that even when I was reading the comic books as a kid. What is the world would lead you to believe that manga and anime are a true reflection of a culture? Grow up. Get a life. Stay away from manga/anime. Do SOMETHING to get a clue.

No, manga is a comic book, they have little to do with the real world.

doesn't matter what grade they get anyways, the students can still move on to the next grade even after failing all the classes. but i have never seen a teacher display grades in a class. Manga, anime, it is all a story, fake. don't base your ideas off of a book or a cartoon on tv. if that were true then most japanese would say that americans eat pizza and hamburgers and fries and drink coke everyday for breakfast lunch and dinner.

FYI, "displayed" has many degrees of display. In some cases, grade information is distributed to students by paper, not displayed on a wall. In some cases, they will only tell you which place (like 10th out of 40 kids) you are at. When I was in high school, grade information was distributed by papers. But after some students said to school they do not like it, it was cancelled. So the bottom line is, it depends on each school. But I'm sure there are few schools where grade is displayed on a wall as you saw in manga.

Like everyone else has said - I have never seen the grades displayed - test or final. I know my students get told their grades at meetings with their homeroom teacher and parent. The practice tests for the high school entrance exams get sent home in a book, with the average for each subject. The parents are supposed to stamp it with their name stamp and give it back to the school. Not that it matters what their grades are since they will pass regardless. Some of the high schools in my area do look at grades, but not as much as they look at what the students make on the entrance exams. And really, some of the grades are so randomly assigned it doesn't matter. It's like "sure, this kid has great tests scores, but never turned in homework. Let's just give him the top grade because."
